[[videro alloc] init]; The VIDERO AG Weblog
June 26th, 2008 by B. TerhechteWelcome to the VIDERO Weblog. In case you wonder who we are and just what ‚VIDERO‘ is, read on, as we‘ll try to explain our product, our company and the intentions behind this blog in more detail just now.

VIDERO is a feature-rich digital signage and POS (Point-Of-Sale) information software solution. Digital signage is a label for the process of placing LCD displays in stores or public locations in order to show information, advertisments, movies and more. The demands on digital signage applications are currently rather moderate, but we‘re pretty sure that future rise in usage will also lead to higher demands, which is why we‘re keen on implenting a broad and extensive feature-set into VIDERO so to be future-proof.
Thus VIDERO is built upon the advanced technical architectures of Mac OS X and leverages many exciting modern standards such as PDF, RSS, Javascript, XHTML, h.264 and much much more as to allow designers & customers a wide array of options for digital content creation. Work on VIDERO began in 2003 and the software has steadily been improved ever since, culminating in the soon-to-be-released new Version 3.0 which will offer major enhancements in all areas of the application.
Our company consists of 22 employees, 10 of them being developers. The VIDERO AG is a german company located a small town called Gronau, next to the dutch border. It was founded in 2006 but is based on the substantial Netside GmbH which in turn was founded in 1997. In the beginning Netside / VIDERO was primary a Web Development and Linux Administration company. Over time we expanded our domain on to dedicated Linux development and finally made the switch to Mac OS X in 2006 by porting the VIDERO application and insofar greatly enriching its featureset.
The historical transition from Web development to native application development brings along the advantage, that our developers are capable of a rather broad set of technologies. We have specialists for Python, PHP, Mac OS X / Linux Administration, Linux-Development, Cocoa / Objective-C, Java, HTML / CSS, Javascript, Webdesign, Flash / Photoshop / Illustrator. This allows for finding useful solutions to a wide series of intricate problems.
Which leads me to the rationale behind this blog. The different topics listed above clearly depict our abilities to merge and connect different sets of technologies. In addition to that, our developers always have a keen eye on news and interesting developments in these areas. This means that we have a lot to share. From solutions to interesting problems, over firsthand-accounts of connecting various technologies to reports about interesting new technologies we just found out about. In addition to that we will, of course, try to allow a transparent sight behind the curtain of the VIDERO AG and into the VIDERO product.
We‘ll try to explain, in a way by example, details about the VIDERO product and it‘s structure.
Another plus of this blog is that it allows for us to manage internal communications by means of different teams learning about their current issues. So from our perspective this blog not only exists as a outer communication tool but also in a way as a internal monitoring device.
From a business point of view, however, the rationale is rather distinct: We’ve set out to create the absolutely best digital signage solution on the market, and this blog helps in calling attention to our product.
We hope that you‘ll find this blog both interesting and good to read. Please note that none of us are native english speakers albeit this blog is completely written in english. Thus it might be that the one or other grammatical error slips in. We‘d like to apologize for this inconvenience.
The Videro AG Team.
